Significant Early Childhood Contributors Quotes

"Once we considered education a public expense; we know now that it is a public investment."
President Lyndon B. Johnson

"Each of us must come to care about everyone else's children. We must recognize that the welfare of our children is intimately linked to the welfare of all other people's children. After all, when one of our children needs life-saving surgery, some else's child will perform it. If one of our children is harmed by violence, someone else's child will be responsible for the violent act. The good life for our own children can be secured only if a good secured for all other people's children."
Lilian Katz, Ph.D.

"The Great Society is a place where every child can find knowledge to enrich his mind and to enlarge his talents.... It is a place where men are more concerned with the quality of their goals than the quanity of their goods."
 President Lyndon B. Johnson

"(...)the younger the children, the less able they are to articulate their ideas, needs, and feelings, and the greater the burden on teachers to make accurate inferences about what the children are thinking and feeling."

Personal Childhood Web

Dedicated to....

Miss Sarah my Grandmother
My father's mother had so much love for me. I was given her first name. My grandmother raised me from age 2 months until I got married and moved. My grandmother was very serious, hard-working, and disciplined woman. She didn't like to embrace with hugs but I knew she loved me. She made sure I was prepared for school each day. I had to be in bed by 8:00 p.m. Each morning she had a hot breakfast ready before I went to school.
Mr. Stewart "Sugarman"  My Dad
My dad joined the army doing my early childhood. He didn't come home often.  When he did come home I would be so excited to see my Dad in his army uniform. He would always bring me a gift. Every birthday he would send my grandmother some money to make sure I had my favorite treats: chocolate ice cream, yellow cake with chocolate icing, cheese puff and a brand new dollar bill.
Aunt Ethel
Aunt Ethel was my grandmother's oldest daugther.  What my grandmother couldn't do she would take care of it. My aunt kept my hair combed, clothes cleaned and ironed. She would always help me with my homework.
Uncle Freddie & Uncle Bobby
My uncles Freddie and Bobby spent most of their time working in the cotton field. They made sure that my grandmother had the money to pay bills and buy what was needed for the household.  When I wanted something extra from the store they never hesitated to get what I wanted.

Each member of my family cared for me in a different way. My family influenced me to work hard and take care of the family no matter the circumstances. My aunt influenced me to study and make good grades. My family made me feel so special because they made sure my needs was always met plus supplied some of my wants.

Title of a Children Book I Love
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
I love this book because it is a very informative easy to read book for beginners. This book uses animals to teach basic colors. This book also teaches rhyming words and is very predictable.

My child care experience started when I was eleven years old.  I was the oldest grandchild out of five grandchildren that my grandmother raised.  When my cousin’s parents went to work I had to help my grandmother.  I enjoyed taking care of my cousins who ages ranged from two to seven years old.  Most people have told me that working with children must be my calling.

My professional child care experience began as a public school Assistant Elementary Teacher for three years before returning to college. For one year I worked as a Child Care Provider/Director.  I have been working as a Head Start Teacher for the past ten years.  I enjoy what I do. I am amazed at how the children blossom with knowledge and maturity from the beginning of the year until the end of the school term.
